G. Gilchrist chooses to play at South Florida
Gus Gilchrist, who left the Maryland men's basketball team this month after never playing a game for the Terps, has selected South Florida.
Terrelle Woody, Gilchrist's personal trainer and adviser, told The Tampa Tribune last night that the 6-foot-9 forward from Temple Hills has chosen the Bulls over West Virginia and Kentucky after visiting the Tampa campus over the weekend.
"He really likes the school," Woody said. "He's friends with Chris Howard [a former teammate at Friendly High who plays at South Florida]. He wanted to play in the Big East. He also likes coach Stan Heath."
Gilchrist will apply for a hardship from the NCAA to get the one-year sit-out rule for transfers waived. He left Maryland after failing to get the one-year sit-out for transferring between Atlantic Coast Conference schools waived.
Gilchrist had originally signed with Virginia Tech but asked out of his scholarship.
