Loyola guard Dylon Cormier (Cardinal Gibbons) had not made a 3-pointer in over 100 minutes of action during the previous three games, but he made one from the low right corner with 3.1 seconds left Thursday night against Manhattan College, lifting the Greyhounds (10-4, 3-1) to a 61-60 Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference victory at Reitz Arena.
Shane Walker inbounded the ball on the far-side baseline and found Cormier open in the corner. Cormier set and hit the shot.
Manhattan (9-7, 2-2) failed to get off a shot in response, and the Greyhounds held on for the victory.
Albany 89, UMBC 72: Chase Plummer had a game-high 25 points for the Retrievers (2-12, 1-1 America East), but a balanced scoring effort, 22 points each by Logan Aronhalt, Mike Black and Gerardo Suero, powered the Great Danes (10-6, 2-0).
UMBC has lost five of its past six games.
Monmouth 73, Mount St. Mary's 59: Julian Norfleet (20 points) hit a 3-pointer to bring the visiting Mount (2-12, 0-3 Northeast Conference) within five before the Hawks (3-12, 1-2) went on an 8-0 run to pull away.
The Mount's Danny Thompson added 15 points and 11 rebounds for his third career doubledouble.
Monmouth opened the second half with an 8-0 run for a 43-31 lead with 17:41 left. The Mount cut the lead to 48-43 before the Hawks went on another run.
Bowie State 97, Fayetteville State 85: Jay Gavin hit back-to-back 3-pointers to start a 14-0 run that spanned both halves and propelled the host Bulldogs (9-1, 1-0 Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association) past the Broncos (2-6, 0-1).
Jarmal Baxter had a game-high 18 points for Fayetteville State. Gavin and Travis Hyman (Old Mill) each had 16 points for Bowie.
Tanisha McTiller scored 16 points to lead three Tigers in double figures.
Bowie State 69, Fayetteville State 49: The host Bulldogs (1-8, 1-0 CIAA) led for most of the game, except for two ties, and by as many as 28 points. Juliette Turner led Bowie with 25 points and 18 rebounds. The Broncos fell to 6-4, 0-1.
Off the court
Morgan State sophomore guard Justin Black will miss the rest of the season with a fractured ankle. Black has not played since the Bears' home opener against Murray State on Nov. 24.
