The cause of NBC5 Chicago sportscaster Daryl Hawks’ death remained unknown following an autopsy conducted today by the Fulton County medical examiner’s office in Atlanta.
Hawks, 38, was in Atlanta to cover Thursday night's NBA playoff game between the Chicago Bulls and Atlanta Hawks. He was found in his hotel room after he did not show up for the Bulls' morning shoot-around. Paramedics took him to a local hospital, where he was pronounced dead, Atlanta police said.
Police said the incident was being treated as a medical emergency and foul play was not suspected.
In a press release, Dr. Randy Hanzlick, chief medical examiner of Fulton County, said that no obvious cause of death was identified in the initial phases of the postmortem examination.
Hanzlick also reported that the results of additional tests, including microscopic examination of tissues and toxicology testing, will not be available for at least two weeks.
