Following up on a breakout rookie season, Chicago Sky guard/forward Elena Delle Donne has been named the WNBA Player of the Month in the Eastern Conference for May.
The 2013 rookie of the year has taken charge early in her second season with the Sky, leading the team with 23 points per game. In fact, Delle Donne has failed to score 21 or more points just once this season – the Sky’s 75-72 loss to the reigning champion Minnesota Lynx, which remains the only blemish on Chicago’s record (5-1).
The Delaware native is coming off a season-best 28-point performance in which the Sky dominated the Connecticut Sun 101-82.
Minnesota’s Maya Moore was named the Western Conference’s Player of the Month.
The Sky return to action with a home game Friday at 7:30 p.m. where they will face the Los Angeles Sparks and Chicago native Candace Parker.
