Former Chicago Blackhawks defenseman Dustin Byfuglien reportedly was arrested late Wednesday night on suspicion of boating while intoxicated.
A Minneapolis Star Tribune report cited jail records showing Byfuglien, who was a major contributor to the Hawks' 2010 Stanley Cup championship before being traded to the Atlanta Thrashers, was brought into the Hennepin County, Minn., jail around 11:10 p.m. and released a few hours later.
Byfuglien, 26, was born in Minnesota and grew up in Roseau, Minn., and lives in the Twins Cities in the offseason. Byfuglien now plays for the Winnipeg Jets after the Thrashers moved there this summer.
Darren Wolfson, who is a contributor to ESPN 1500 radio station in Minnesota, broke the story and tweeted Thursday that Byfuglien refused to take a sobriety test and that the player weighed in at 286 pounds, far more than his usual playing weight of around 245.
