Four players in academic investigation won't play in Irish opener

SOUTH BEND, Ind. -- Notre Dame football coach Brian Kelly did not provide any update Tuesday on the academic fraud investigation involving four Irish players, other than to say they would not play in Notre Dame's first game against Rice on Saturday.

The four -- cornerback KeiVarae Russell, linebacker Kendall Moore, receiver DaVaris Daniels and defensive end Ishaq Williams -- have not practiced since Notre Dame announced the invesitgation on Aug. 15.

Kelly said he might get more information next week.

In other roster news, Kelly said receiver Corey Robinson had a pin placed to repair a fractured thumb but will still play Saturday. As expected, linebacker Jarrett Grace (broken leg) and receiver Torii Hunter Jr. (groin) are out, with Kelly saying Hunter appears ahead of schedule.

Check back for more updates later.
