Cleveland Browns legend Jim Brown supports Johnny Manziel and does not disapprove of the rookie quarterback's behavior off the field.
“I like Johnny, you know, I like his type,” Brown said on an ESPN Cleveland radio show Friday. “Johnny is a champion, Johnny won games in college. He won the Heisman Trophy as a freshman, didn't he' … That's pretty bold. Not bad. You got to have something going on to do that.”
The 78-year-old Brown, with a cane at his side, said he understands the Manziel frenzy.
“You've got to remember, I'm an ex-player. We used to party,” Brown said. “Let's get real, man, we chase girls.”
Manziel has created plenty of attention for his off-field escapades. According to ESPNCleveland.com, Brown was quick to condemn alcohol and drug use and abuse, but he's OK with some fun away from the field.“There's nothing wrong with it,” Brown said.
Brian Hoyer will start Monday night's preseason game at Washington, the second time the Browns have gone with the veteran quarterback over Manziel. Hoyer has been splitting first-team practice reps with Manziel this week.
