ESPN will let announcers decide on "Redskins"

ESPN is going to let its announcers and analysts decide whether they will use "Redskins" when referring to the team.

ESPN issued a statement Saturday:

"Our consistent company policy will continue: using official names and marks as presented by the teams, leagues and conferences we cover. We do, however, recognize the debate over the use of 'Washington Redskins' and have afforded individuals the opportunity to decide how they will use those words when reporting on the team.”

There definitely are split views at ESPN. Earlier this week, former Bears coach Mike Ditka called the controversy "stupid," leaving no doubt that he will use the name.

Meanwhile, Keith Olbermann has done several commentaries saying the nickname has to go.
