Allen, Long to sit vs. Eagles; Bennett still suspended

Which Bears are not playing against the Eagles on Friday night?
An update on Martellus Bennett's status as the Bears begin their exhibition season Friday
Jared Allen, Kyle Long among Bears who won't play in exhibition opener

Pro Bowl right guard Kyle Long and star defensive end Jared Allen are among the Bears that will sit out Friday night's exhibition opener against the Eagles at Soldier Field.

Suspended tight end Martellus Bennett will not play and is not expected to be on the sideline for the game.

Long missed most of training camp due to a viral infection, then missed practice Wednesday with what the team said is an ankle injury. Long was seen with his right ankle taped Wednesday afternoon.

Right tackle Jordan Mills on Tuesday aggravated the left foot he fractured in the final game of the 2013 regular season. He said on Wednesday that he expected to play Friday, but the team decided to hold him out.

That means quarterback Jay Cutler and the first-string offense will play with a pair of backups manning the right side of the offensive line.

Allen missed practice from Monday through Wednesday because he was away from the team due to the birth of his daughter.

Cornerback Tim Jennings will not play, as he continues to nurse a quadriceps injury. Cornerback Isaiah Frey strained his right hamstring on Monday and will not play. Offensive lineman Eben Britton it out due to the strained left hamstring he suffered on July 30.

Safeties Chris Conte (right shoulder) and Craig Steltz (groin) remain on the physically unable to perform list, although both worked out on the field two hours before kickoff.
