Archbishop Curley High School will join the list of schools looking for a new baseball coach for next season after Jack Thomas resigned.

Thomas, 60, led the Friars to a record of 104-88 in seven seasons.

His most successful year was 2008, when the Friars finished 23-8, third in the Maryland Interscholastic Athletic Association and ranked No. 5 in the state.

"I loved my years coaching at Curley and am grateful to have had the opportunity to coach in the MIAA A Conference," Thomas said. "I stepped down because over the last couple of years, as more people retired or moved on, my job [with Verizon] has become more demanding. It was getting tougher to get to practices early, and I did not feel like I was able to put the time in that is necessary as a head coach in such a program."

Thomas said he believes he's left the program in good shape, with several strong young pitchers on board for whoever takes over the team next season.

Thomas plans to be involved in coaching his 12-year-old grandson's team and hopes to find an assistant coaching position with a high school team for next spring.
