Women's roundup: Schwarzmann, No. 4 Terps top No. 1 Syracuse, 19-11

Reigning Tewaaraton Award winner Katie Schwarzmann (Century) scored a career-high seven goals, and the No. 4 Maryland women's lacrosse team knocked off No. 1 Syracuse, 19-11, on Sunday at the Carrier Dome.

Taylor Cummings (McDonogh) added five goals and a game-high six draw controls for the Terps (2-0), and Alex Aust finished with her second four-goal showing of the year.

Maryland is averaging 19.5 goals per game through its first two games.

The Orange (1-1) had won its previous eight home openers. Kasey Howard (Broadneck) had a career-best 11 saves in her second start in the cage for Maryland. The Orange did not score until more than 10 minutes into the game.

No. 3 Florida 13, High Point 7: The Gators improved to 3-0 for the first time in program history by beating the host Panthers (1-1). Kitty Cullen (McDonogh) scored twice for Florida, and Brittany Dashiell (John Carroll) had three points with a goal and two assists.

The Gators held a 6-3 lead at halftime, but seven goals in the second half made the difference.

No. 5 North Carolina 14, Richmond 7: Kara Cannizzaro led the Tar Heels with four goals in a victory over the visiting Spiders. Taylor George (Broadneck) had three goals for North Carolina (2-1), which outshot Richmond 33-9.

The Spiders (0-3) went on a 6-1 scoring run in the second half, but it wasn't enough to overcome the Tar Heels' 10-1 halftime lead.

No. 6 Duke 15, William & Mary 8: The Tribe led early in the first half, but the host Blue Devils scored nine unaswered goals.

Makenzie Hommel led Duke (4-0) with three goals and an assist. Taelor Salmon scored three for the Tribe (1-1), and Colleen Nofi recorded a career-high 19 saves.
