State football: Johns Hopkins finishes regular season unbeaten

Johns Hopkins, ranked No. 8 in Division III, finished its regular season 10-0 with a 52-21 road victory Saturday over McDaniel.

The Blue Jays (10-0, 9-0 Centennial Conference) led 28-0 after the first quarter and capped their second unbeaten regular season in the past three years by routing the Green Terror (2-8, 2-7).

Quarterback Robbie Matey scored on a 1-yard touchdown run on Hopkins' first drive.

Daniel Wodicka caught a 5-yard touchdown pass, and freshman Jack Toner intercepted a pass and returned it for a score in the first quarter.

Blue Jays coach Jim Margraff pulled most of his starters after the first quarter.

Nick O'Melia caught a 48-yard touchdown pass from Seth McFall to put the Green Terror on the scoreboard in the second quarter.

Hopkins led 35-7 at halftime.

Nine Blue Jays ran the ball for 213 yards and four touchdowns on 41 carries.

Hopkins will learn its NCAA tournament draw tonight at 6.

Friday night: Salisbury (6-4, 5-2 Empire 8 Athletic Conference) led 21-14 late in the first half, but the Sea Gulls scored the next seven touchdowns for a 70-14 blowout of Frostburg State (1-9, 0-7) in the 15th Annual Regents Cup Game.
