Tuesday, Aug. 12: Timothy Bowman, program manager for the Maritime Law Enforcement Information Network, will speak at a meeting of the Northwest Chapter of the Maryland Saltwater Sportfishing Association. He'll discuss how the new maritime surveillance and reporting system is used to help catch poachers and Search & Rescue on the Chesapeake Bay. The meeting will be at the Patapsco Council No. 1960 Knights of Columbus Hall, 1010 Frederick Road in Catonsville. Use the Beaumont Avenue (side) entrance. Memorial 5K run
Sept. 13: The seventh-annual Jessica Meredith Jacobsen Memorial 5K Run presented by the Father O'Neill Council #4011 Knights of Columbus will start and end at Immaculate Conception Church in Towson. Nov. 1: The Orioles, OriolesREACH and manager Buck Showalter and his wife, Angela, are joining forces with KidsPeace to host the fifth annual Trick-or-Trot 5K/1-Mile Walk, a Halloween-themed race to benefit children in foster care. The race will begin and end at Oriole Park. Costumes are encouraged, and prizes will be awarded for top runners, age-group winners, fundraising teams and best costumes. The registration fee is $35 through Oct. 27 and $40 on race day. Register at kidspeace5k.org. All proceeds benefit KidsPeace Foster Care and Community Programs of Maryland and Washington, including KEYS (KidsPeace Empowering Youth to Succeed), a program that prepares youth for independence through life-skills training. Hurd 5K Run
Nov. 8: The sixth-annual Heather L. Hurd 5K Run and 1 Mile Fun Walk will take place at 9 a.m. at Harford Community College in Bel Air. The race honors the memory of Heather L.
