Wounded Warrior Shoot

Today, July 27: Vingt-Neuf Bowmen are holding a Wounded Warrior Shoot from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Maryland State Game and Fish Protective Association, 8735 Honeygo Blvd. in Perry Hall. The cost is $10 for adults and $3 for students under 18. Proceeds go directly to the Wounded Warrior Project. Information: Email Bob Woods at whitetailbob@verizon.net.

Patapsco advice

Monday, July 28: Capt. Jerry Sersen will discuss perch and rockfish opportunities in the Patapsco River at the monthly meeting of the Perry Hall Chapter of Maryland Saltwater Sportsfishermen's Association at 7:30 p.m. at Gunpowder VFW Post 10067, 6309 Ebenezer Road. Pro-Formance Fishing

Aug. 5: Pro-Formance Fishing Team, affiliated with B.A.S.S. and Maryland Bass Nation, is seeking additional members and will hold an introductory meeting at 6 p.m. at The Green Turtle in Edgewater. The club is primarily based in Glen Burnie but has membership throughout the region. It fishes 12 club tournaments a year and also participates in MBN and other tournaments. It is seeking boaters but also can accommodate a few riders. It welcomes new anglers who want to learn how to fish for bass competitively in a friendly environment. Charles Street 12

Aug. 9: The point-to-point running race takes runners down Charles Street, now a National Scenic Byway, from the shops at Kenilworth in Towson to Power Plant Live in Baltimore. A portion of the proceeds will benefit the Children's Heart Program at the University of Maryland Children's Hospital. Register at charlesst12.com.

Hunter safety course

Aug. 9: Registration will be held from 9 a.m. to noon for the Baltimore County Game & Fish Protective Association's hunter safety course on club grounds at 3400 Northwind Road in Carney. Classes will be Wednesdays & Thursdays, Aug. 13, 14, 20 and 21 from 7 p.m. to 9:30 p.m. The test will be Aug. 23 from 8:30 a.m. to noon. Catching poachers

Aug. 12: Timothy Bowman, program manager for the Maritime Law Enforcement Information Network, will speak at a meeting of the Northwest Chapter of the Maryland Saltwater Sportfishing Association. He'll discuss how the new maritime surveillance and reporting system is used to help catch poachers and Search & Rescue on the Chesapeake Bay. The meeting will be at the Patapsco Council No. 1960 Knights of Columbus Hall at 1010 Frederick Road in Catonsville. Use the Beaumont Avenue (side) entrance. Turkey shoot

Aug. 24: The Baltimore County Game & Fish Protective Association will conduct a turkey shoot on club grounds at 3400 Northwind Road in Carney from noon to 3 p.m. Test your skill for a chance to win a turkey, ham or bacon. For further information, call Greg at 410-598-4970.

Trick-or-Trot

Nov. 1: The Orioles, OriolesREACH and manager Buck Showalter and his wife, Angela, are joining forces with KidsPeace to host the fifth annual Trick-or-Trot 5K/1-Mile Walk, a Halloween-themed race to benefit children in foster care. The race will begin and end at Oriole Park. Costumes are encouraged, and prizes will be awarded for top runners, age-group winners, fundraising teams and best costumes. The registration fee is $35 through Oct. 27 and $40 on race day. Register at kidspeace5k.org. All proceeds benefit KidsPeace Foster Care and Community Programs of Maryland and Washington, including KEYS (KidsPeace Empowering Youth to Succeed), a program that prepares youth for independence through life-skills training.
