Lefty Kreh's Tiefest

March 9: Fly-tiers Bob Popovics, Steve Silverio and Blane Crockett will demonstrate patterns and answer questions at Lefty Kreh's Tiefest, sponsored by the Coastal Conservation Association Maryland. The event will run from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at Prospect Bay Country Club in Grasonville. Casting instruction will be available for youngsters under 16 from 11 a.m. to noon. Free for CCA members and youngsters under 16; $10 for others. Nonmembers may join CCA at the event for $25 and get in free.

Sea kayaking introduction

March 16: The Chesapeake Paddlers Association will sponsor "SK 101: Intro- duction to Sea Kayaking," a one-day seminar, 8:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. at the West River Center in West River. Mud run

May 5: Terrapin Adventures has partnered with Playworks Baltimore to host a 5K run through the woods of Savage to benefit the nonprofit Playworks Baltimore and its effort to bring safe, meaningful play to Baltimore schools. Registration is $30 before March 15 and $40 after that date. To participate, runners must also raise a minimum of $25 for Playworks Baltimore. Md. Half Marathon

May 11: Registration is open for the fifth annual Maryland Half Marathon to benefit the University of Maryland Marlene and Stewart Greenebaum Cancer Center. The race will be in the Maple Lawn community of Howard County. The cost of registration will be $75 until Jan. 31, $85 in February and $90 from March 1 to May 11.
