Baltimore Boat Show
Jan. 23-26: The 60th anniversary Progressive Insurance Baltimore Boat Show will be at the Baltimore Convention Center. Compare hundreds of boats from luxury cruisers and fishing boats to family runabouts and pontoons. Show will include appearances by members of the History Channel's "Swamp People," seminars, a boating simulator and a 50-foot-by-50-foot pond for hands-on fly fishing practice, kayaking and stand-up paddle boarding. Feb 11: The Pro-Formance Fishing Team, a member of the Maryland Bass Nation, is seeking members and will hold an introductory meeting at 6 p.m. at Hellas Restaurant in Millersville. The club, primarily based in Glen Burnie and Annapolis, fishes 10 club tournaments a year and participates in MBN and other tournaments. It is seeking boaters but can accommodate a few riders, too. It welcomes new anglers who want to learn how to fish for bass competitively in a friendly environment. Through March 15: Anglers have the chance to keep their fishing skills sharp during the winter months through the third annual Coastal Conservation Association Maryland Catch and Release Pickerel Tournament. The fly and light-tackle tournament covers any tidal tributary of the Chesapeake Bay. Fishermen will be required to take photos of their catch against any standard ruler and submit those photos to a judging panel. Prizes will be awarded each month and for the total tournament based on inches of pickerel caught with the top prizes being fishing rods. Registration costs $30. Charles Street 12
Aug. 9: The point-to-point running race takes runners down Charles Street, now a National Scenic Byway, from the shops at Kenilworth in Towson to Power Plant Live in Baltimore.
