Host Mount St. Mary's scored a pair of late goals to stun No. 18 Bucknell, 12-11, in men's lacrosse Sunday.
Andrew Scalley (Archbishop Spalding) tied the game with 1:35 left, and Cody Lehrer (Dulaney) scored the game-winner 15 seconds later to propel the host Mountaineers (1-1) to their fifth all-time win over a ranked opponent.
Bryant Schmidt (St. Mary's Ryken) gave the Mount the chance to tie when he caused a turnover near midfield.
The Bison (1-1) had a pair of chances in the final seconds to even the score but missed the cage on both shots.
Scalley finished with eight points in the game on three goals and five assists. Brett Schmidt (St. Mary's Ryken) added two goals and five assists, while Lehrer finished with four goals for the Mountaineers. Goalkeeper Adam Borgogelli made 13 saves in his first collegiate start.
No. 19 Penn State 15, No. 9 Denver 12: Shane Sturgis and Jack Forster each scored four goals in the Nittany Lions' victory over the Pioneers at the Moe's Southwest Grill Classic in Jacksonville, Fla.
Penn State (2-0) outshot Denver 42-28. Eric Law and Wes Berg led the Pioneers (1-1) with three goals each.
No. 10 Duke 15, Mercer 3: David Lawson and Jordan Wolf scored four goals apiece to lead the Blue Devils over the visiting Bears.
Christian Walsh (Boys' Latin) had a goal and an assist for Duke (2-2), which held Mercer (1-1) scoreless in the first half. Four goalkeepers saw time in the cage for the Blue Devils.
Albany 16, No. 13 Syracuse 15, 2OT: Miles Thompson scored in the second overtime to upset the host Orange in both teams' season opener.
Syracuse (0-1) came back from a 10-14 deficit in the fourth quarter to tie the game at 15. Dylan Donahue scored the equalizer with 2:52 left to play.
No. 15 Ohio State 9, Jacksonville 6: Greg Dutton (Calvert Hall) had nine saves in the Buckeyes' win over the host Dolphins at the Moe's Southwest Grill Classic.
Six players scored for Jacksonville (0-2), which kept the game close in the second half, but a 3-1 advantage in the fourth quarter eventually sealed the win for Ohio State (2-0).
St. Mary's 13, Roanoke 12: Nate Babcock (Severn) and Conor Jordan led the Seahawks with three goals each in their season-opening win over the visiting Maroons.
Conner Dubois led Roanoke (0-1) with three goals and six ground balls.
