A goal by senior attackman Sean Rogers with 2:35 remaining in the third overtime period lifted No. 5 Notre Dame men's lacrosse team to a 10-9 win over the No. 6 Pioneers on Sunday afternoon in South Bend, Ind.
It was the third straight game-winning tally for Rogers. On March 10, he lifted the Fighting Irish (4-1) to a 6-5 overtime win at Hofstra. He then netted the deciding goal in regulation in a 6-5 victory at Drexel on March 3. Sophomore midfielder Jim Marlatt (River Hill) had a team-high three points on two goals and one assist, while Rogers also had two goals and sophomore attackman Westy Hopkins had one goal and two assists. Their 10 goals against Denver (4-2) were a season high for the Irish.
No. 14 Duke 20, Dartmouth 9: Josh Dionne, Robert Rotanz and Jordan Wolf scored four goals each to lead the Blue Devils (6-3) past the visiting Big Green. Duke has won all 15 meetings with Dartmouth (2-2).
No. 15 Penn State 12, No. 8 Vanderbilt 11, OT: The Nittany Lions (7-2, 1-0 American Lacrosse Conference) rallied from as many as five goals down in the second half to defeat the conference rival Commodores (5-2, 0-1).With the win, Penn State remains undefeated on the road for the season, moving to 5-0.
No. 2 North Carolina 14, Old Dominion 3: Senior All-American Laura Zimmerman tied her career high with five goals to lead the Tar Heels over the host Monarchs (2-5). North Carolina (9-1) outscored Old Dominion 12-2 in the second half to blow open a close game.
No. 17 Ohio State 14, Canisius 11: Alayna Markwordt (Glenelg) posted a season-high tying nine points as the Buckeyes (6-1) defeated the Golden Griffins (2-5) on the road.
Markwordt, a candidate for the Tewaaraton Award, had three goals and six assists for her fourth career outing with nine or more points.
