The One Love Foundation, the nonprofit organization created in 2010 to honor the memory of Yeardley Reynolds Love (YRL), announced that Maryland attackman-midfielder Joe Cummings (Loyola High) and Virginia Tech senior attacker Ryan Rotanz were selected as the 2012 YRL Unsung Hero Award recipients.

The award is given annually to one men's and one women's lacrosse player within the Atlantic Coast Conference for their dedication to leadership, for their community service, and for being a positive role model on and off the field.

Navy men draw crowds

The Navy men finished third in the country in attendance for the 2012 season, averaging 3,378 fans per game for six home dates.

Syracuse finished first (4,447), and Virginia was second (4,018). Rounding out the top 10 were Ohio State (3,364), Maryland (3,334), Johns Hopkins (3,246), Notre Dame (2,511), Villanova (2,259), Loyola (2,206) and Army (2,193).

4 with Terps ties make Hall

Four players or coaches with ties to the Maryland Terrapins are among the eight- person class to be inducted into the National Lacrosse Hall of Fame on Oct.20 at The Grand Lodge in Hunt Valley, US Lacrosse announced Wednesday.

Navy coach Cindy Timchal, who has more wins than any other college lacrosse coach, guided the Terps to eight of their NCAA titles.

Loyola coach Jen Adams and Northwestern coach Kelly Amonte Hiller were national Players of the Year and three-time first-team All-Americans on some of Timchal's national title teams.

Brian Dougherty was a two-time All-American for the Terps and twice named the nation's best goalie.

The rest of of the class: four-time Syracuse All-American Roy Colsey; Middlebury women's coach Missy Foote, whose team has won five Division III titles; three-time Princeton All-American Jesse Hubbard; and Tim Nelson, three-time national attackman of the year at Syracuse.

•McDaniel senior attackman DJ Rickels (Boys' Latin) and defenseman Nick Sicuranza were named Division III All-America honorable mentions by the United States Intercollegiate Lacrosse Association.

•St. Mary's defender Paige Decker (River Hill) was named to the SynapseSports.com all-rookie team.
