Previewing the week ahead for state college lacrosse teams


No. 4 Stevenson (20-2)

Coming up: Vs. No. 12 Salisbury, Sunday, 7 p.m., Mustang Stadium

Comment: Of the reigning national champion Sea Gulls' 11 losses since 2010, five have occurred at the hands of the Mustangs. Junior attackman Chris Dashiell has recorded 53 assists this year, which is the third-most in a single season at Stevenson.

No. 12 Salisbury (17-5)

Coming up: At No. 4 Stevenson, Sunday, 7 p.m.

Comment: The Sea Gulls hold a 10-5 advantage in this series, but the Mustangs won the most recent meeting, 10-8, on April 3. Senior midfielder Eric Kluge, who leads the offense in goals (39) and points (60), has posted at least one point in 20 of the team's 22 contests.

No. 1 Maryland (20-0)

Coming up: Vs. Duke, Saturday, noon, Field Hockey & Lacrosse Complex

Comment: The Terps will be aiming for their 12th national championship when they host Atlantic Coast Conference rival Duke in the NCAA quarterfinals. The last time the two met, the Terps won, 15-6, on Feb. 24 after running up a 9-1 lead. Maryland leads the series 15-9 and has won the past two meetings.


No. 2 Salisbury (21-0)

Coming up: Vs. Middlebury at Stevenson, Saturday, 10:30 a.m.

Comment: Last season's Division III runners-up, the second-seeded Sea Gulls are aiming for a second title to go with their 2010 crown as they advance to the national semifinals. They defeated the Panthers, 15-7, in the semifinals a year ago before falling to this year's top seed, Trinity (Conn.), 8-7, in the title game.
