Digest (Sept. 26): Blast to open season Nov. 10 at Towson University

The Blast released their 2017-18 schedule with the team playing its home opener against the Cedar Rapids Rampage on Nov. 10. The Major Arena Soccer League will feature 16 teams, each playing a 22-game schedule. Baltimore will play in the Eastern Division along with Florida, Harrisburg and Syracuse. Blast opponents from outside the division include Cedar Rapids, Ontario, St. Louis, Kansas City and Milwaukee. The Blast will play their first season at SECU Arena at Towson University and hold an open house at the site 2-4 p.m. Oct. 7 (For the full Blast schedule, see Scoreboard below).

NFL

The Ravens have selected Jorge Eduardo Castillo, founder and chief strategist of ¡Onward! Estrategias, for the 2017 NFL Hispanic Heritage Leadership Award. Castillo will be recognized for his achievements at Sunday's game against the Pittsburgh Steelers. The NFL and the Hispanic Heritage Foundation have partnered for the seventh annual award presentation, which coincides with the celebration of Hispanic Heritage Month. Castillo has more than 16 years of experience in the business industry and is the chairman and president of the Maryland Hispanic Chamber of Commerce and the previous vice president and founding board member of the There Goes My Hero Foundation. Castillo has spent six years serving as a hotline counselor for House of Ruth Maryland.

Johns Hopkins recognizedin Division III football polls

Johns Hopkins was ranked No. 8 in the American Football Coaches Association poll and No. 13 by D3football.com. Meanwhile, Blue Jays senior wide receiver David Brookhart (Glenelg) and sophomore defensive end Mike Kalanik were named Centennial Conference Special Teams and Defensive Players of the Week, respectively. ... Three Bowie State players earned Centeral Intercollegiate Athletic Association weekly honors — senior Victor Tamba Jr. (Offensive Lineman of the Week), junior Amir Hall (Quarterback of the Week) and sophomore Gene Carson III (Special Teams Player of the Week). ... The Collegiate Sprint Football League named Navy's Sheppard Wilson Defensive Player of the Week and Jared Swenson Special Teams Player of the Week.

WNBA: Washington Mystics guard Shatori Walker-Kimbrough (Maryland) was one of five players named to the WNBA All-Rookie Team. Walker-Kimbrough averaged 4.4 points in 12.5 minutes after being drafted No. 6 overall. Allisha Gray (Dallas Wings), Kelsey Plum (San Antonio Stars), Brittney Sykes (Atlanta Dream) and Kaela Davis (Dallas) were also named to the team.

Men's college soccer: Daniel Zaremba had a goal and an assist and goalie Mac Burke earned a shutout as Navy (2-6-1) defeated Saint Joseph's, 3-0.
