Former Maryland and Wisconsin quarterback Danny O'Brien is transferring to Catawba College, a Division II school in Salisbury, N.C., for his final season, Todd Willert, O'Brien's high school coach at East Forsyth in North Carolina, confirmed to FOXSportsWisconsin.com.
"He just wants to go and have some fun and play some football," Willert told the website.
Catawba is roughly 50 miles from O'Brien's hometown of Kernersville and provides the fifth-year senior with the opportunity to play right away.
"[They] got a great system and wideouts here," O'Brien said in a text message to Badger Nation. "[It] should be fun."
O'Brien was Atlantic Coast Conference Rookie of the Year as a redshirt freshman at Maryland in 2010. He struggled in 2011 and transferred to Wisconsin, where he started the first three games last season before being relegated to backup duty and leaving the program after spring practice.
