Max Ferdinand, Machel Millwood and Pat Healey each scored two goals Monday night as the Blast finished a two-game sweep of the host Rochester Lancers with a 14-8 win in the Major Indoor Soccer League's Eastern Division Finals.
The Blast advance to the championship series, where they will face the Milwaukee Wave in a rematch of last year's final, which the Wave won, 16-7, in a one-game playoff at 1st Mariner Arena. The venue will host Game 1 of this year's final at 7:35 p.m. Friday; Game 2 will be 4 p.m. Sunday in Milwaukee.
Ferdinand, who led the Blast to victory in Game 1 of the Eastern Finals, wasted no time Monday night, scoring just 36 seconds into the game to give the Blast a 2-0 lead. Millwood scored next, at 6:38, to extend the lead to 4-0 before Andrew Hoxie cut the lead to 4-2 to end the first quarter.
After a scoreless second quarter, Ferdinand opened the second-half scoring with a goal after just 25 seconds, and Healey scored his first goal to give the Blast an 8-2 lead. Jeremy Ortiz and Doug Miller led a brief Lancers rally, knocking in two goals to cut the Blast lead to 8-6 before Healey ended the quarter with his second goal of the game, making it 10-6.
Millwood's second goal came late in the final quarter, followed by a goal from Adriano Dos Santos (one goal, three assists) to make it 14-6 before Rochester veteran John Ball scored the last goal of the game.
The Blast played the series without the injured Adauto Neto, Stephen DeRoux and Scott Buete.
