The Chesapeake Bayhawks selected goalie Kip Turner (Severn) 13th overall Wednesday in the Major League Lacrosse Expansion Draft and acquired two-time All-Star defenseman Brian Spallina from the Ohio Machine.
The Bayhawks received the selection as a result of a trade last month. Turner was the 2010 MLL Goalie of the Year.
As part of the trade for Spallina, the Bayhawks received a fourth-round selection in the MLL Collegiate Draft; the Machine received the Bayhawks' third-round collegiate pick.
During the draft, the Bayhawks lost defenseman Jake Deane, attackman Ryan Hurley, goalie Brian Phipps (Maryland, Severn) and midfielder Justin Smith. The team was able to pull midfielders Steven DeNapoli and Dan Hardy, and defenseman Dan Hostetler back to their roster after three players were selected by other teams. Once the expansion draft ended, the Bayhawks returned goalie Chris Garrity to their protected list, bringing the roster to 18 players.Copyright © 2015, The Baltimore Sun
