Get to know the United States Men's National Team ahead of the 2014 World Cup
June's World Cup means that those who don't follow the United States Men's National Team as regularly as they should (which is very regularly) might be at a loss when this mixture of Americans and Europeans who have American passports takes the nation by storm in Brazil.
Take into account the lack of star forward Landon Donovan, and a host of youngsters new to the national team fold, and there's a lot of catching up to do. Fear not. Here's a rundown on each player on the US 23-man roster, with a bit of background and an overview of the role they're expected to play for coach Jurgen Klinsmann in Brazil.

Matt Besler( Douglas Jones-USA TODAY Sports, USA TODAY Sports / February 13, 2013 )
Notes: Defender ... 27 years old ... 6 feet ... 170 lbs ... Plays for Sporting Kansas City (MLS) ... First played for USMNT in 2013 ... Played at Notre Dame for 4 years (2005-08).
Outlook: Besler (sliding) has barely been in the national team picture for a year but finds himself traveling to Brazil as the team's first-choice center back. He lacks experience on the biggest stage, as do many of the American defenders, but he was a rock at the back in the World Cup qualifiers and the Gold Cup last summer.
