That time a country-music star challenged Michael Phelps to a 'swim-off'

Country-music star Luke Bryan had a "few beers" at the Super Bowl and challenged Michael Phelps to a swim-off.

As a 31-year-old retiree and the world's greatest swimmer, Michael Phelps gets to go to a lot of cool places and meet a lot of famous people and do a lot of occasionally cringeworthy things.

In February, the Ravens weren't in the Super Bowl. Phelps went anyway. He took selfies with his wife. He hung out with friend Ray Lewis. He also got to meet the pregame entertainment.

Country-music star Luke Bryan sung the national anthem before the New England Patriots and Atlanta Falcons kicked off in Houston. At some point that night, he ran into Phelps. According to Dustin Stout of "CMT Cody," a county-music program, Bryan told radio professionals Thursday at Country Radio Seminar in Nashville, Tenn., that he began to drink a "few beers."

Before long, a challenge was offered.

"The next morning, [my wife] Caroline let me know that I had challenged Michael Phelps to a swim-off at my house," Bryan said.

Bryan probably does have a pool at his house; he's sold over 7 million albums worldwide, after all. But Phelps is retired. When he's getting in the pool, it's to teach baby boy Boomer to avenge his Olympic losses.

Rap music is more Phelps' thing anyway, but after the Super Bowl, he said on Twitter that he was looking forward to seeing Bryan again.

No word on whether he'd bring his Speedo.
