Editor's note: Towson junior running back Terrance West declared early for the NFL draft after setting school records with 4,584 rushing yards and 86 touchdowns. The 5-foot-9, 223-pound Baltimore native is not enrolled at Towson this semester as he pursues the NFL and is sharing his draft experiences with Baltimore Sun reporter Aaron Wilson. At the NFL scouting combine, West delivered a strong performance as he ran the 40-yard dash in 4.54 seconds with a 33.5-inch vertical leap and caught the football smoothly in drills. West had formal meetings with 13 NFL teams, including the Ravens and Cleveland Browns. This is the eighth in an occasional series leading up to the draft in May.
I had a private workout for the Miami Dolphins this week. It went pretty good.
The Dolphins running backs coach [Jeff Nixon] likes me a lot. He told me I was high on his board of college running backs.
It was Wednesday at Towson. We did board work and met and talked and went over some different plays. It was a good background meeting and we got to know each other.
That would be amazing to be a Dolphin if they were to pick me. That’s a good team. I always liked the Dolphins growing up. They’re building and they need a good running back like myself.
I’ve been doing some television interviews and my family and friends and people that are close to me have been able to get involved. It was something special, letting people see where I’m from and what it took for me to get to this point. I’m happy to tell my story.
I’m happy that the NFL teams are coming out to see me here and meet me. It’s priceless. For a coach to travel all the way up here to see me, it’s a big deal.
I think this is the perfect year for a good running back like myself to be in the draft. I have great size, good speed for my size, great vision and I can also catch the ball. It’s the perfect time for me to come out and teams need a good back like myself.
The last couple of years, teams have been picking up speed backs. Now, they’re going back to the old days for guys like Marshall Faulk and Emmitt Smith to get an all-around running back. I want to show that I can go out each and every week and be consistent and be an every-down back.
I watch a lot of movies on Netflix. I just saw a movie called “LUV.” It was good. It’s a Baltimore movie.
I love home cooking. I love breakfast: bacon and eggs and waffles. I eat breakfast sometimes three meals a day.
We might do something the first day of the draft as far as a draft party at the Greene Turtle. For the second and third day, I’ll be with my family at the house. It should be a lot of fun.Copyright © 2015, The Baltimore Sun
