We have countless awesome sports photos in the archives here at The Baltimore Sun, and I have decided to share one with you each week in a regular feature called "Throwback Thursday."
The Ravens announced Tuesday that they were releasing four prominent veteran players. They were tough moves for Ravens fans to swallow, especially the ones who now have to go shopping for a new jersey.
Gone are wide receiver Derrick Mason, defensive tackle Kelly Gregg, running back Willis McGahee and tight end Todd Heap. Saying goodbye to Heap was probably the hardest for the collective fan base. The team’s first-round pick in 2001, Heap made 467 catches for 5,492 yards and 65 touchdowns in 10 seasons with the Ravens. His boyish looks, his work in the community and his humility endeared him to Baltimore, too.
In the above Baltimore Sun file photo, shot by Kim Hairston on July 30, 2004, Heap, Sharpie in hand, is swarmed by Ravens fans as he leaves the field at McDaniel College on the first day of training camp.Copyright © 2014, The Baltimore Sun
