The Maryland men will be heavy underdogs tonight when they play Duke in the second round of the ACC tournament. The Terps are closer to the NIT bubble than the NCAA bubble, and unless they win four in a row this weekend, they will likely be making their fourth NIT apperance in seven years.
If you ask former CBS analyst Billy Packer -- and Dan Steinberg of D.C. Sports Bog did -- the recent track record of Maryland coach Gary Williams is unacceptable.
"The University of Maryland is, in my estimation, a program that should never be out of the top 25," Packer told Steinberg this week. "Their recruiting base, their tradition, their heritage, their position in the Atlantic Coast Conference. They should have players -- and they really don't have players -- of the magnitude to be a top 25 team, year in and year out. That would be something Maryland has to do something about. They've got to get better players in order to be the kind of team they're capable of being."
Maybe Gary should show that quote to his players before the Terps take the court against the Blue Devils tonight.Copyright © 2015, The Baltimore Sun
