President Barack Obama is our nation’s most notable NCAA basketball fan, but does the Commander in Chief love college hoops enough to come watch the winless Towson Tigers play at the Towson Center on Saturday?
Hey, it could happen, but it would have nothing to do with seeing Pat Skerry in his first year as Towson coach.
Michelle Obama’s older brother and the president’s brother-in-law, Craig Robinson, coaches the Oregon State men, and the 4-1 Beavers happen to be the Tigers’ opponents for Saturday’s game, which tips off at 2 p.m.
And Oregon State has just one other East Coast game this season (next month at Howard University in D.C.).
Who knows, maybe President Obama will find time between trying to solve the national debt crisis and planning his re-election campaign to check out Saturday’s game. After all, the prez has made cameos at Georgetown games. He played hoops with Tyler Hansbrough. He reveals his March Madness bracket on ESPN every year. And he just watched North Carolina and Michigan State play on the aircraft carrier USS Carl Vinson.
I don’t know if Towson expects its home opener to be well-attended, but something tells me the folks at Towson would probably make room for the First Family and a dozen men in black suits and sunglasses.
