Redskins outmaneuver Browns, pull off RG3 blockbuster

It's like The Drive and The Fumble all over again, rolled into one. When news broke late Friday that the Washington Redskins had obtained the No. 2 pick in April's NFL Draft, my thoughts turned to my hometown Cleveland Browns and another opportunity lost.

Let's call this The Trade.

Holding the No. 4 and No. 22 picks in the first round, I thought there was no way they could let another team complete a trade with the St. Louis Rams for the No. 2 pick and presumably Heisman Trophy winner Robert Griffin III.

But these are the Browns we're talking about. And what makes it even worse is that the inept front office of the Redskins beat them to the punch. How does that happen?

So instead of the electric RG3, the Browns have a power outage. What do you do at quarterback now? Go with Colt McCoy? He didn't really inspire confidence with last year's performance. Take a chance on Texas A&M Ryan Tannehill? Oklahoma State's Brandon Weedon? How about free agents Matt Flynn, Kyle Orton and Jason Campbell?

None brings the excitement that RG3 would have. Imagine how many tickets the Browns would sell if they had made the trade? It would be like that LeBron guy arriving in Cleveland all over again.

So instead of getting excited about the Browns again, I'm left to admire the Redskins, whose front office had the guts to pull the trigger on a blockbuster. The Browns? Nothing but sadness.

The Drive. The Fumble. The Trade.
