Catcher Chance Sisco and right-hander Jon Keller, both of Low-A Delmarva, earned Orioles Player and Pitcher of the Month honors for June, respectively, the Shorebirds announced Tuesday.
Sisco, the Orioles' second-round pick last year, hit .404 with eight doubles, a home run, and 19 RBIs in 24 June games, good for a 1.004 OPS. Sisco overcame a slow start -- he hit .245 in April -- to raise his average to a league-leading .353, thanks to his hot June and .411/.441/.589 line in 13 games this month.
Sisco has seen his prospect star rise this season. Along with Christian Walker and Dariel Alvarez, a pair of Double-A Bowie stars who are set for promotions to Triple-A Norfolk after the All-Star break, Sisco is in the conversation as one of the Orioles' top hitting prospects.
Like Sisco, Keller rebounded from a slow April to become a force for the Shorebirds out of the bullpen.
Keller, the club's 22nd-round pick in 2013, allowed five earned runs in 11 innings in April, but he has since allowed just five in 43 innings for a 1.05 ERA since May 1. He was 1-0 with a 1.13 ERA in 16 innings in June, striking out 15 and allowing just three walks.Copyright © 2014, The Baltimore Sun
