If you've ever said you've seen enough of Towson-born Olympic swimmer Michael Phelps for one lifetime, I submit to you evidence that you may have spoken too soon.
Phelps, the record-setting Olympic swimmer, is one of 22 athletes appearing nude in ESPN The Magazine's The Body Issue, which features photo spreads of the world's top athletes, well, out of uniform.
Phelps will join tennis star Venus Williams, Seattle running back Marshawn Lynch (Beast Mode indeed), Texas first baseman Prince Fielder, Oklahoma City forward Serge Ibaka, and Arizona wide receiver Larry Fitzgerald, and former Maryland soccer player and current United States national team defender Omar Gonzalez.
Annapolis-born motor sports competitor Travis Pastrana will also appear alongside his wife, Lyn-Z.
Phelps won four gold medals and two silvers in the 2012 Olympics in London to bring his record total to 22 medals overall. He retired from swimming shortly after London but recently returned to competition with a coy eye towards the 2016 Summer Games in Rio de Janeiro.
However, considering the way a person needs to feel about his body to do this, maybe there was a bit of extra motivation to get back into shape for this photo shoot.
We're working on trying to track down the photos before the issue hits newstands on July 11, but in the meantime, you can get a quick glimpse in the video accompanying this ESPN announcement.Copyright © 2014, The Baltimore Sun
