This weekend, Maryland’s baseball team set a school-record in wins, reached the Atlantic Coast Conference title game, and secured its first NCAA tournament bid since 1971.
And with the team gaining some attention, of course a video of its biggest star is making the Internet rounds.
Last week, several sites linked to a video featuring pitcher Jake Stinnett and a child spoofing the NFL “Play 60” commercial that features Carolina Panthers quarterback Cam Newton.
The ad, for Maryland’s “Play 61” campaign, advocates for 61 minutes of play each day. The child in question tells Stinnett that he will grow up to start over Stinnett and become the right-hander’s mother’s favorite player.
The original ad was outstanding, and imitation is the highest form of flattery, but either way, it’s good to see Maryland having fun during its best season in school history — and their ace and senior leader at the center of it.Copyright © 2014, The Baltimore Sun
