Ravens coach John Harbaugh created some cross-town sports synergy Tuesday while discussing the team’s running back situation, and used a phrase made famous this year by the high-flying Orioles.
“I like our guys,” Harbaugh said, calling back a phrase Orioles manager Buck Showalter has frequently used, and one the team slapped on a promotional T-shirt.
Harbaugh elaborated that Bernard Pierce, the presumed starter with Ray Rice suspended for the first two games of the season, “had a good spark,” while he also had good things to say about backups Justin Forsett and Lorenzo Taliaferro.
I doubt the exact words of Harbaugh’s praise for his team crossed his mind, as he’s said different version of the same sentiment a lot. But with so much buzz around the Orioles, it’s hard not to notice.
It’s a strange world we live in when the Ravens seem to be taking moves out of the Orioles’ playbook, though the recent transaction involving cornerback Derek Cox calls back to the Orioles’ maneuvering earlier in the year with first baseman Steve Pearce.
Pearce, like Cox, was released and spent two days on the waiver wire available to be signed by another team, but returned on the promise of the organization despite interest from around the league.Copyright © 2014, The Baltimore Sun
