Coffee Companion (8/4): Orioles win another tight one

The Baltimore Sun

Sorry this is a bit late, Scores Baltimore Hockey had a triple-header last night, and I'm proud to say we won them all. It made waking up for the Coffee Companion, where we recap the daily sports headlines, a bit harder to do, but is going to make the coffee even more necessary.

- Orioles outfielder Nick Markakis went deep to open the bottom of the first, and that was all the Orioles needed for a 1-0 win over Seattle. Toronto lost three straight to Houston, putting the Orioles 3.5 games up entering tonight’s makeup game against the Nationals.

- The Orioles sat down a struggling Nelson Cruz. He’s hitting .210 since June 1.

- Ravens’ second-round draft pick Timmy Jernigan was a limited participant in practice yesterday after dealing with back spasms. His former Florida State teammate, third-round pick Terrence Brooks, is still behind on the mental part of the game, coach Dean Pees said.

- And why don’t you read more about Terps wide receiver Stefon Diggs.
