Big, strong and explosive afoot, he was the prototype of the modern tight end. Of Mackey's 38 touchdown catches, 13 were for 50 yards or more. His nine years with the Colts netted three conference crowns and a Super Bowl in 1971, a game in which the Hall of Fame receiver caught a 75-yard touchdown pass. Three times All-NFL, he caught 331 passes and made the league's 50th anniversary team while still a player.
