Baltimore Sun's 25 women to watch in 2016

2. May 2, 1983: The Colts trade signing rights to quarterback John Elway, their first-round draft choice, to Denver for signing rights to tackle Chris Hinton, the Broncos' first-round pick, quarterback Mark Herrmann and a 1984 first-round selection (guard Ron Solt).

Winless in 1982, the Colts make Elway, Stanford's All-American, the No. 1 pick in the NFL draft. Elway balks, saying he'll play pro baseball with the New York Yankees unless traded. The Colts panic and send him to Denver, where Elway carves a Hall of Fame career and takes the Broncos to five Super Bowls. For the Colts, Hinton becomes a Pro Bowl tackle and Solt, a starting lineman. Herrmann plays five games and is traded.
