The No. 11 Maryland men's soccer team scored two goals in the final four minutes to defeat Virginia Tech, 2-1, in Atlantic Coast Conference play on Friday night at College Park's Ludwig Field. Kevin Tangney tied the score at 86:58 when his strike off Paul Torres' corner kick went past diving Hokies goalkeeper Stefan Caulfield from 20 yards. With 52.3 seconds remaining, freshman John Stertzer gave Maryland the game-winner when his shot sailed into the back of the net after Billy Cortes had saved the ball at the end line. Virginia Tech scored its lone goal early. In the ninth minute, Charlie Campbell served a corner kick from the near side that crossed over the box into heavy traffic. The ball found Clarke Bentley, who placed the shot into the back of the net past Zac MacMath. "Tonight was the first time this season that we've came back and won," Terps coach Sasho Cirovski said. "For a young team, that's a big confidence booster." Maryland moved to 7-3-1 and 3-1-1 in ACC play, while Virginia Tech fell to 3-6-2 and 2-2. The announced attendance was 4,543.
