Michael Phelps swam to an easy win in the 400-yard individual medley open event Friday at the Maryland Swimming Championship Meet at the Naval Academy. Phelps posted a time of 3 minutes, 39.01 seconds in winning the event, the first of four he plans to compete in during the three-day meet. Phelps' winning time was three seconds off the U.S. short-course record of 3:35.98 in the event. "I'm not happy, not at all," Phelps said.
