U.S. men's national team has many local standouts

US Lacrosse announced Monday the final roster for the 2010 U.S. men's national team. The training team roster of 41 was narrowed down to the Federation of International Lacrosse-mandated limit of 23 after three fall exhibition weekends in West Point, N.Y., Annapolis, and Stony Brook, N.Y. All 23 players, selected by the coaching staff, will compete in the FIL World Championship in Manchester, England, July 14-24. The team includes five members of the 2006 U.S. men's team that finished as runner-up to Canada at the world championship: Ryan Boyle, Kevin Cassese, Ryan Powell, Matt Striebel and Kyle Sweeney. The team's first appearance together will be at the 2010 US Lacrosse National Convention in Baltimore Jan. 15-17, followed by its first on-field competition at the 2010 Champion Challenge in Orlando, Fla., against Duke and Army Jan. 30-31. The team includes midfielders Kyle Dixon and Alex Smith and defenseman Shawn Nadelen (Johns Hopkins). Others on the roster include attackmen Brendan Mundorf (UMBC) and Drew Westervelt (UMBC); midfielders Stephen Peyser (Johns Hopkins) and Paul Rabil (Johns Hopkins), defensemen Joe Cinosky (Maryland) and Eric Martin (Salisbury); and goalie Brian Dougherty (Maryland).

Hall of Fame: Three-time All-American and Navy lacrosse all-time leading scorer Jeff Long will be inducted into the National Lacrosse Hall of Fame on Saturday along with Cherie Greer Brown (Virginia '94), Todd Curry (Syracuse '87), Patricia Price Genovese (coach), Kevin Lowe (Princeton '94), Jennifer Miller O'Donnell (official), Mark Millon (Massachusetts '93) and Jessica Wilk Strosberg (Maryland '90). The 52nd class will be honored at the Grand Lodge in Hunt Valley.
