Come spring, he powered Johns Hopkins to three national lacrosse championships (1967-1969); come fall, he carried the football team, setting 15 school records in rushing, receiving and kicking. Cowan, a Hall of Fame attackman from Friends, earned first-team All-America in lacrosse three times and was named the nation's best player.
