Danica Patrick marketing buzz sputters on race days

Still, it might not be enough. Johnson and Kenseth are experienced guys who won't blink under pressure. The only plausible shot Busch has at shaking things up is if Johnson and Kenseth each has a poor finish in one of the remaining races.

I don't see it happening.

But it's always a good thing when you have a guy nicknamed Rowdy in the mix of contenders.

Crew chief ousted

Todd Parrott is out at Richard Petty Motorsports.

The team announced Tuesday that it fired Parrott, former crew chief for Aric Almirola, for violating NASCAR's substance-abuse policy. Greg Ebert will serve as the interim crew chief for the remainder of the season.

Ebert previously served as car chief for Almirola's No. 43 Ford team for the past two seasons. Before joining RPM, Ebert spent nine years at Roush Fenway Racing. He spent five of those seasons as car chief for Matt Kenseth.

"We are confident in Greg's leadership abilities and we will give him the resources he needs to be successful," Sammy Johns, vice president of operations and competition for RPM, said in a statement. "He is very familiar with our race program and gives us a more seamless transition. More importantly, he gives Aric the best opportunity to finish the season strong."

Parrott was formerly a crew chief for Dale Jarrett, leading Jarrett to the 1999 Cup championship and victories in the Daytona 500 and Brickyard 400 twice.
