Michelle Marciniak returns home in July to highlight the Celebration of Women in Sport at the 2009 U.S. Women's Open at Saucon Valley.
Marciniak, the former Central Catholic and University of Tennessee basketball star, is among five high-profile women athletes scheduled to appear at the program, set for July 7. Joining Marciniak will be Olympic soccer player Julie Foudy, Olympic gymnasts Shannon Miller and Wendy Hilliard and former University of Connecticut basketball player Rebecca Lobo.
The Celebration of Women in Sport, presented by the Women's Sports Foundation, is one in a series of events designed to attract and entertain children at the Women's Open. Children 17 and younger will be admitted free when accompanied by a paying adult.
Marciniak scored 3,025 points as a senior at Central and played on Tennessee's 1996 national-championship team. She played professionally for six years and spent five as an assistant coach at the University of South Carolina.
Last year, Marciniak co-founded SHEEX, a South Carolina-based company that makes bed sheets from athletic performance fabrics.
