Eureka graduate and University of South Dakota runner Jeff Mettler was named to the Academic All-District honors, according to a release by the College Sports Information Directors of America.
Mettler, a kinesiology major with a 4.0 GPA, was named 2013 USD Male Athlete and USD Scholar-Athlete of the Year. He was named Summit League Indoor Track MVP, after winning the 3,000-meters and the mile, and placed third in the 5,000-meters. Mettler added a league steeplechase title at the Summit League Outdoor Championships in May and qualified for the West Region Preliminary Round in the event. He placed second at the Summit League Cross Country Championships, and was named Academic All-Summit League in both cross country and indoor track.
To be eligible, a student-athlete must have at least a 3.3 GPA, must have participated in 50 percent of his/her team’s competitions, must have sophomore status or higher and must have completed one full calendar year at his/her current institution.
