HURON - The Aberdeen gymnastics team vaulted to one of the top team scores of the season.
The Golden Eagles scored 130.65 points to finish third at the Huron Triangular on Thursday in high school gymnastics. Watertown won the meet with 145.85 points followed by Huron at 133.00.
The all around title went to Anne Peterson of Watertown with 36.35 points to edge her teammate Jalyn Carrico with 35.55.
Our ultimate goal is get into the 130s so I'm happy with that, said Aberdeen gymnastics coach Jen Deutsch.
The top event for the Eagles was the vault where they scored 35.05 points. We did extremely good in the vault. That was a very good score for us. The top four scores for us were very nice. said Deutsch.
The top four vaulters were Taylor Schweitzer (8.95), Hannah Langbehn (8.95), Brook Horner (8.9) and Larissa Swanson (8.25).
On the balance beam Allison Marnette, Langbehn and Alexis Clark had no falls, and Schweitzer fell just once.
Clark participated in all four events for the first time since returning from an injury.
Three of her four events went well. We're very happy to have her back and at full strength. Brooke struggled in Rapid City (last weekend) but had a better meet. On our bigger routines we did well. Overall, we did OK, said Deutsch.
Aberdeen's next action is Feb. 5 hosting the Eastern South Dakota Conference championships.
