1997 -- John Huston is atop the leaderboard with a five-under par 67 after the first round of the Masters golf tournament in Augusta, Ga., leading Paul Stankowski by one stroke and Paul Azinger by two.
2002 -- Jim Thome hit a grand slam home run during Cleveland's six-run second inning and finished with five RBIs to lead the Indians to a 9-3 victory over the Minnesota Twins.
2007 -- Aberdeen bowlers Val and Cliff Kuckelburg won the State Mixed Bowling Tournament in Gregory. The Kuckelburgs finished with a score of 1,419 and defeated Gretchen Munger and Jim Wilson of Mitchell by 29 pins.
2011 -- South African Charl Schwartzel carded a final round six-under par 66 for a four-day total of 274 to win the Masters Golf Tournament in Augusta, Ga., by two strokes over both Jason Day and Adam Scott.
