BRANDON - About the only thing worse than falling behind on the road is falling behind on the road to a solid defensive team.
Aberdeen Central was forced to play catch up all night and suffered a 65-51 setback to Brandon Valley in an Eastern South Dakota Conference boys' basketball game Saturday night.
They're good defensively, said Central coach Brent Norberg. They made us speed up a little bit. We kind of rushed of our offensive possessions.
Norberg said the game was also physical which played into the hands of the Lynx.
They're more athletic and more physical in a lot of positions and the game was called that way and that was to their advantage, he said.
The score was tied at 6-6 in the opening quarter before the host team scored nine unanswered points to take control. From there the Golden Eagles trailed the entire way and could never make a serious charge.
We just didn't shoot it very well tonight, Norberg pointed out. Our kids didn't give up. We just couldn't make a shot.
The game was a stark contrast from Friday night when the Eagles played one of their best games of the season in a loss to Mitchell.
We're lacking that consistency right now, Norberg said. That's been the story all year. We didn't have the same bounce tonight.
Josh White tossed in 22 points to lead Central. Reid Fust followed with 11.
The Eagles dropped to 0-9 on the season and 0-6 in conference action. They play host to Pierre at 7:30 p.m. Friday at Golden Eagles Arena before heading to Huron on Saturday. Both opponents are district foes as is Mitchell, meaning Central will have faced all the teams within the district in a week's time.
We have to find a way to be able to get one win in our district, Norberg said. That's our focus right now. After this weekend we will have played all three.
