1986 - Dave Becker scored 31 points to lead South Dakota Tech to a 92-83 victory over Northern State in the Wolves' season-opening basketball game. Jim Griffin led the Wolves with 31 points.
1991 - Gettysburg used a 14-5 third-quarter run to defeat Mobridge 46-43 and capture the District 12A high school girls' basketball championship. Kristie Schatz led the Gettysburg victory with 20 points and 11 rebounds.
1996 - Sophomore Jessica Braun scored 18 points to lead Warner past Tripp-Delmont 50-47 in the first round of the State B high school girls' basketball tournament.
2001 - Ichiro Suzuki, who came to the major leagues after nine years of professional baseball in Japan where he won four most valuable player awards, was named the American League MVP. He was just the second rookie to win the award, the other being Boston's Fred Lynn in 1975. Suzuki topped the AL with a .350 batting average and stole 56 bases for the Seattle Mariners.
2006 - Minnesota Twins first baseman Justin Morneau was named the American League Most Valuable Player, edging New York's Derek Jeter. Morneau batted .321 with 34 home runs and 130 RBIs in helping the Twins win the American League Central for the fourth time in five years.
2010 - Ryan Fitzpatrick threw a pair of touchdown passes Steven Johnson and Fred Jackson added a 30-yard TD run during a fourth-quarter rally that lifted the Buffalo Bills to a 49-31 National Football League victory over the Cincinnati Bengals.
