1986 - Rating financial security more important than managing in the major leagues, former Chicago Cubs and Kansas City Royals manager Jim Frey has rejected the Minnesota Twins' offer to be their manager. Tom Kelly was named interim manager of the Twins after Ray Miller was fired this past season.
1991 - The Sacramento Kings extended their current National Basketball Association record road losing streak to 42 games with a 116-104 loss at Atlanta. The Kings have not won a road game since Nov. 20, 1990.
1996 - Northern State scored an 85-68 men's basketball win over Mayville State behind Jeremy Vliem's 30 points.
2001 - Brad Hansen tossed in 22 points and Andy Foster added 19 to lead Northern State's men's basketball squad to an 85-50 decision over Mount Scenario of Wisconsin.
2006 - Ryan Howard of the Philadelphia Phillies was voted the National League Most Valuable Player after leading the majors in home runs and RBIs. Howard, the 2005 NL Rookie of the Year, had 58 homers and drove in 149 runs while batting .313, setting team records for homers and RBIs.
2010 - Mikayla Barondau scored 20 points and grabbed 13 rebounds to lead Northern State's women's basketball team to a 59-42 decision over Colorado Christian. Jodi Reinschmidt added 12 points to the NSU total.
